Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Dany Laferrière left his birth country in 1976 and settled in Quebec where his first novel, Comment faire l’amour avec un nègre sans se fatiguer (How to Make Love to a Negro Without Getting Tired), was published in 1985 to immediate success and acclaim. In 2006 he received the Governor General's Award for his illustrated children's book, Je suis fou de Vava. His most recent book (L'Énigme du retour) met with resounding success, winning the Prix Médicis and the Grand Prix du livre de Montréal in 2009, as well as the Blue Metropolis International Literary Grand Prix and the Prix des libraires in 2010.
